Solar Electric on Commercial Buildings

With the introduction of the feed in tariff by the government in April 2010 the idea of installing solar PV systems on commercial premises has suddenly very much become a reality.

Up until April 2010 the pay back period on installing a solar PV system on a commercial building ran in to decades! But now with 21p per unit generated rate installed by 31st March 2013 (for systems up to 4kw in size) being paid to system owners for a guaranteed 25 years this period has drastically reduced. To benefit from the 21p rate you have to have the system installed by 2013, but as long as it’s in by then and the company you use to install it is an MCS Accredited installer (like we are at Solargen!) then you will get this rate. The rate is also index linked so goes up each year in line with inflation.

On top of this great rate you also benefit from the free electricity, so the government actually pays you for the electricity you generate even if you use it yourself!
